Rules

  • Junior definition follows the Chess Federation of Canada handbook:
    "JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP
    9. Any person ordinarily resident in Canada who has not reached the age of 20 by January 1st of the current year, shall be granted a Junior membership."
  • Bye request – Maximum 2 requested ½ point byes (excluding last round) at least 1 hour before the round starts (and before pairings are done).
  • Family members will not be paired against each other except in the last round.
  • Forfeit wait time – 10 minutes grace period before the game is forfeited
  • Ties for prizes will be broken using tie-break systems (direct encounter, individual cumulative score, followed if necessary by cumulative score of opponents)
  • Online registration only - for pre-pairing, onsite registration is NOT allowed.
  • Recording moves is not required.
  • Chess sets and clocks are provided.
  • Parings may use player's FIDE, CFC, CMA, NWSRS or a foreign rating at the TD's discretion.
  • Players must inform the TD if s/he is not able to play in any round(s). Players who have not shown for any round without notice will be forfeited from the tournament, and will require a legitimate reason and the TD’s approval to re-enter the tournament.
